Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard

Was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1995 for her research on the genetic control of early embryonic development in animals; she was the first woman in Germany to receive this award. In 2004, the biochemist and developmental biologist founded the Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard Foundation to support young female scientists with children.
