Amelie Schoenenwald
Floating weightlessly through space, seeing the earth from above - many people dream of becoming an astronaut. But how do you get there and what do you need to be able to do? Amelie Schoenenwald takes children, young people and curious adults on her journey to becoming a reserve astronaut with the European Space Agency. She talks about the exciting and challenging training and what requirements are needed. She shows how important perseverance and team spirit are, but also the ability to deal with setbacks.
Amelie Schoenenwald has a doctorate in biochemistry and is a strategy manager. She has been a member of the ESA Reserve Astronaut Corps since 2022 and was selected from over 22,500 applicants from all over Europe. In 2024, she began the first of three training modules at ESA's European Astronaut Center (EAC) in Cologne, which will prepare her to carry out scientific experiments in space in the event of a possible mission.
