Julian Nida-Rümelin and Nathalie Weidenfeld

For decades, the dominant thesis in the feuilleton debates, but also in the cultural and social sciences, has been that risk is a cultural construct, that risk cannot be measured, and that dealing with risk cannot be rationalized. It is high time to do something about this.
Risk is not a construct, but a reality - the Corona crisis shows this very clearly and forces us to confront it.
Which risks are we prepared to take? Which ones are we not? What values are important to us as a society? What can we protect ourselves against? And at
what price?

The philosopher Prof. Dr. Julian Nida-Rümelin was Minister of State for Culture, teaches at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, and has been Vice Chairman of the German Ethics Council since 2020. The Reality of Risk is, after Digital Humanism, the second joint publication with cultural scientist, editor and author Dr. Nathalie Weidenfeld.

In the series Praktisch Philosophie!

In the context of the International Science Festival - Geist Heidelberg.
