In the framework of the International Science Festival - Geist Heidelberg and the 13th Empathy Conference
Shirin Ebadi
The courageous and significant resistance of the people in Iran, especially women, has continued unabated since September 2022, despite the dangers to the demonstrators. They protest against oppression, inequality, corruption, censorship, poverty, too few jobs - the discontent is great. At the same time, we are witnessing an unprecedented solidarity between men and women. Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi is a fearless advocate for children's and women's rights. We ask what we can do from the outside for the people and women of Iran.
In 2003, Iranian human rights activist Dr. Shirin Ebadi became the first Muslim woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Born in 1947, the jurist was one of the first Iranian women to be appointed as a judge after her studies in Tehran. She had to give up her post after the Islamic Revolution. Since the end of 2009, Ebadi has been living in exile in Great Britain.
