We all go to the supermarket. But do we really know what we are buying every day? Incomprehensible ingredient lists, opaque quality promises and a lack of information leave us as customers in the dark about actual ingredients. "It's not consumers who determine the assortment and quality of food through their supermarket purchases. It is the legal rules and regulations that undermine consumer sovereignty and control the food market," says environmentalist Thilo Bode.

Thilo Bode, born in 1947, studied sociology and economics in Munich and Regensburg. The former managing director of Greenpeace Germany and Greenpeace International founded the consumer rights organization foodwatch to document deception and health hazards in the food market and expose weaknesses in legislation.
