Traveling with Montaigne

To Italy, via Switzerland and Germany - Michel de Montaigne described his journey on horseback from 1580 to 1581 in the famous travel diary. 440 years later, French philosopher Gaspard Koenig rides in his footsteps. Where Montaigne opted for the fastest means of transport of his time and changed horses daily, today the journey is one of deceleration and bureaucratic hurdles. A very unique travelogue about being on the road, the freedom of slowness, the encounter with nature and the Europe of today.

Gaspard Koenig, born in 1982, is a philosopher and essayist. In 2013, he founded the think tank Génération Libre.

Tobias Roth is a poet, translator, and essayist. Roth's tome World of the Renaissance, published in 2020, translated and annotated, met with great media response and was on the SPIEGEL bestseller list.
