Venkatraman "Venki" Ramakrishnan studied physics and biology, received his Ph.D. from Ohio University and did research at Yale University, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory.
From 1995 Ramakrishnan was Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Utah, and since 1999 he has worked at the Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Medical Research Council, Cambridge.
In 2009, Venki Ramakrishnan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry together with Ada Yonath and Thomas A. Seitz.
