Window into the brain
What used to be touted by charlatans at fairs is already becoming reality in brain research imaging techniques. However, "brain reading" is far from being able to map truly complex thoughts and feelings. Nevertheless, it is becoming clear that brain and mind are connected.
John-Dylan Haynes has managed to decode hidden intentions in the brains of his subjects. This raises the provocative question: are our thoughts, desires, feelings really safe?
Prof. Dr. John-Dylan Haynes is professor for theory and analysis of long-range brain signals at the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience, at the Berlin Center for Advanced Neuroimaging of the Charité and at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
Dr. Matthias Eckoldt is a science journalist and author of books such as Can the Brain Understand the Brain (2013) and A Brief History of Brain and Mind (2016).
