Carel van Schaik and Kai Michel

Wars and catastrophes dominate the news, depression and anxiety disorders are rampant - we have been shimmying from one crisis situation to the next for years. High time for an evolutionary clarification: Anthropologist Carel van Schaik and historian Kai Michel explain how it came about that we lead an existence in a state of emergency. They clear up misunderstandings about evolution and human nature and show what power culture has over us: "We are not to blame. We just need to finally understand ourselves!"

Prof. Dr. Carel van Schaik is a behavioral scientist and evolutionary biologist. He taught biological anthropology at the University of Zurich and found significant cross-connections between the social behavior of orangutans and humans.

Kai Michel is a historian, literary scholar and best-selling author. He has written for major newspapers such as ZEIT, FAZ and GEO. Together with Carel van Schaik, he illuminated what the Bible reveals about evolution in Diary of Humankind (2017).
