Humanity at the Crossroads: Does Our Species Have a Future?
At a breathtaking pace, humans have subjugated the planet to their needs. In the 21st century, they face the shards of their actions: natural resources depleted, global warming a deadly threat, global pandemics an acute danger. Will we master this crisis as well? Johannes Krause shows what we can learn from the past for our survival - and what dangers lie in the unbridled power of man.

Prof. Dr. Johannes Krause is director at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig and received his doctorate under Svante Pääbo, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine this year. Previously, he was founding director at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Humankind in Jena and taught archaeo- and paleogenetics at the University of Tübingen. His research focuses on the analysis of ancient to very ancient DNA. In 2010, he succeeded for the first time in proving the existence of a new human form, Denisova Man, using genetic data from a Siberian fossil.
