Navid Kermani

"When he takes the floor - or pulls out his fountain pen - you read (or listen) closely: Navid Kermani has vitalized the position of the public intellectual in an astonishing way in recent years." (NDR Kultur)

Navid Kermani will be a guest at the DAI on two days at once for the festival finale of Geist Heidelberg:
On Friday evening, you can encounter Navid Kermani's literary oeuvre. As a "public intellectual" he takes up topics and formats in a wide range, from travel books to technical books, from political commentaries to stories and novels. From the 1999 publication God is Beautiful: The Aesthetic Experience of the Quran to State of Emergency (2013) and Along the Trenches (2018), Navid Kermani's literary works have won numerous prestigious cultural and literary awards. Particularly noteworthy was Your Name (2011), a mixture of diary, narrative, and social analysis. This evening, the aim is to get a glimpse of the whole Kermani!
He will read earlier and more recent texts.
The following day(Sat, Dec. 17, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.) will focus on reports, readings and moderated talks.

Navid Kermani, born in 1967 in Siegen, lives as a freelance writer in Cologne. He is a habilitated Orientalist and a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry. For his novels, essays, reportages and monographs, Kermani has received the Kleist Prize, the Hölderlin Prize, the Joseph Breitbach Prize and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, among others. His books have been translated into numerous languages.
Kermani is considered one of the most important voices in our society. His themes revolve around borderline experiences of people of different national and religious origins.
