Rüdiger Safranski & Manfred Osten
A book about time, and so, also about our lives. What does time do to us? And what do we do with time? Safranski provides insight into the tension between the loss and the preservation of time. Beyond the clock, which provides us with an apparently objective measure of time, and beyond socially-defined culture of deadlines, he encourages us to rediscover the time in all its rich diversity.
Professor Rüdiger Safranski, born in 1945, is a philosopher and has also written biographies of E.T.A Hoffmann, Nietzsche, Goether and Schiller, as well as books which address fundamental questions of humanity (Das Böse). He has won numerous prizes, his most recent being the Thomas-Mann price, which he won in 2014. Since 2012, Safranski has taught Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin.
Dr Manfred Osten is an author, lawyer and art historian. He worked for over 30 years as a diplomat, in areas including Africa and in Japan. From 1995 until 2003, he was the General Secretary for the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung. He has published numerous texts concerning art history.
