Stefan Meuer

The immune system is the only mobile organ: immune cells constantly patrol the entire body and scan their surroundings. The immune system plays a role in every disease - making it all the more important to understand the entire complex defense system. Heidelberg immunologist Stefan Meuer has contributed significantly to research on human immune cells over the past decades. Meuer describes his subject as a "game changer" in medicine over the past 30 years. In the lecture, he will provide insights into the progress of rheumatism drugs, immunotherapies and the latest findings in transplantation medicine.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Meuer was Managing Director of the Institute of Immunology at Heidelberg University Hospital for 26 years and co-founder of the Heidelberg Blood Donation Center. His research provided insights into fundamental defense mechanisms used in the therapy of cancer, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases and transplant rejections.
