International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER): the world's largest nuclear fusion facility - a project of the century and a joint research project of 35 nations. The goal of the project is to demonstrate the feasibility of generating energy through nuclear fusion. The results will provide key technologies for plasma heating, diagnostics and robotics. ITER is expected to be the first nuclear fusion facility to produce surplus energy. Can this provide a solution to the energy needs of the future - unlimited and emission-free?
Prof. Dr. Ursel Fantz is a plasma physicist and has been teaching at the University of Augsburg and the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching since 1995.
Dr. Christian J. Meier writes for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Neue Züricher Zeitung and Riffreporter.de, among others. The physicist also publishes non-fiction books and thrillers with a technical-scientific background, e.g. on artificial intelligence.
